What to expect from your in-home newborn session.
What should you expect when preparing for me to come to your home to photograph your new baby?
Well I love to photograph the newborn sleeping if possible, but I don’t go as far as some others with that. I like the more organic feel of the new baby at home. So if we get sleepy, yay! If not, the connection between you is what is important.
I love a good simple swaddle with not a lot of pattern (depends on the pattern)
I don’t usually photograph a newborn in clothes(frumpy outfits), but if someone knitted something, by all means.
YES I would love mom and dad to be in the photos. A simple solid shirt is my favorite
SPACE HEATER - We will keep the baby nice and warm if you have one by where we are shooting.
I will shoot by whichever window light I can find.
I don’t bring props. If you have a girl and want bows or headbands just make sure they fit. Those can be huge, awkward or distract from the cute baby face.
I love pretty blankets so keep that in mind as the months come to our shoot- feel free to send photos. And yes, I do edit skin on everyone where needed.
I expect lots of feeding/changing to happen so don’t sweat that part. These sessions can take an hour or two hours with feedings, allow two hours max on the shoot- but I often get done in one hour depending on the mood of our little one. Don’t worry about a messy kitchen or anything like that- I usually shoot in a small space by a window and I MAY ASK TO MOVE THINGS :)
Also- the sooner they are here the better! They change fast so lets try to get them before 8 days old if possible.
Most of all- no stress!
What’s next? 6 month shoot of course!
To book your newborn session send me an email with your expected due date. Email or text me when the baby is born and we try to book within 10-14 days if possible.
