Mother and Son Family Session at Rattlesnake Lake - Seattle Family Photographer
This session was strait up DREAMY.
This amazing mother and son duo were visiting Seattle from Georgia and booked me for a shoot during their visit. “Can there be a mountain in the background?” she asked in her email. Absolutely. And we went for the strong Pacific Northwest vibes. I love that this gorgeous mamma chose my favorite color to photograph in the green trees, and her son in my next favorite color, ivory.
I love the browns, ivory, rust, blues with the trees as the colors in nature. Earth tones photograph so well, and that rust just pops.
The lake was high and the geese were everywhere. We embraced it and made them our models. They didn’t seem to mind.
Did you know there was a town where the lake is now once upon a time?
The Cedar River Watershed and the Town of Moncton
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the area became important for the city of Seattle’s water supply. The Cedar River Watershed was developed to provide drinking water to the growing population. The town of Moncton was established near what is now Rattlesnake Lake to house workers building the Cedar River pipeline.
The Flood of 1915
The most significant event in Rattlesnake Lake’s history occurred in 1915. The town of Moncton was built near a naturally occurring lake, which was then called "Rattlesnake Prairie." However, the construction of the Cedar River pipeline caused the water table to rise dramatically, flooding the town. The flood was unexpected and forced the evacuation of Moncton. The rising water created what is now known as Rattlesnake Lake, which permanently submerged much of the original townsite. Fortunately, no lives were lost during the flood, but the town of Moncton was abandoned.
This North Bend family session was easy and dreamy and fun, all the things. After I sent off the sneak peaks, I got a response that said “THESE ARE THE BEST PHOTOS I’VE EVER SEEN!” Which made me sooooo happy and grateful that I get to be a family photographer. I say this a lot, I have very little photos of me or my mom as a child so I realize the importance of these moments. Thank you for being here!
