My approach to newborn sessions - Seattle/Sedona Newborn Family Photographer

I love Maternity and Newborn sessions. The magic humans create will never stop amazing me.

My approach to newborn sessions is a little bit documentary -with a touch of guidance. The baby will be in mom and dad’s arms for most of the session. That’s where they belong after all:) There is no fancy posing, just as you are, in the comfort of your own home. I show up with my camera in my hand, and that is all, I don’t do props. I can help you find cute blankets or little bows of you want that, or you may already have them. I typically like to shoot these sessions within the first two weeks. A lot of the session may be feeding or taking care of the baby, and that is okay. Sometimes grandparents join. Usually these sessions last 90 minutes, but we can get done in one hour if things go smoothly. I can rent a a studio if you feel like traveling to one, for an additional cost. I do do some newborn sessions outside, typically in summer. Some people have yards and we step outside for just a few to add diversity to the gallery and get some fresh air.

A soft surface to lay baby on is lovely, a bed by a window works. And just snuggle up!

Basically I’m there to photograph you snuggling with you new baby, to capture the bond between you and your family with the newest addition. This newborn part goes by in an instant, and I feel like it should be documented in an artful way. This special time is so fleeting, and I am here for you. Pricing and tips at the end.

If the baby needs to eat, they eat. If they get fussy, I shoot through it. All the real moments. Again, with some guidance. I will be your artistic director. My goal is to take you back to exactly what it felt like when you first brought your baby home. I aim to capture that intense love and connection between your family.

I prefer simple! If the blanket has a pattern, it can take away from the baby. Use a simple onesie without patterns too. And we can do a few just in a diaper. I do my newborn sessions with window light, so we will be shooting next to the windows in your home.
